The minor in Greek aims to give students a good command of Greek in the four skill areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing, as well as to provide them with an in-depth understanding of contemporary societies and cultures in Greece and Cyprus.
Learning Outcomes
Students who have completed a BA programme in Greek should be able to:
• | Demonstrate the ability to analyze critically and to discuss perceptively major aspects of the Greek language |
• | Demonstrate the ability to analyze critically Greek and Hellenic/Hellenistic culture, society and history |
• | Demonstrate the ability to analyze critically the interconnectedness of the language, culture, society and history of Greece with those of Europe and the rest of the world. |
• | Foster a life-long interest in the Greek language, as well as the Greek and Hellenic/Hellenistic society, and history |
• | Demonstrate the ability to address issues and problems related to Greek and Hellenic/Hellenistic culture in a creative way and as independent learners |
• | Demonstrate understanding of major issues and debates in the Greek-speaking world today |
• | Demonstrate the ability to critically appraise common representations and misconceptions of Greek-speaking parts of the world |
• | Use knowledge of the Greek language and Greek and Hellenic/Hellenistic culture to critically appraise their own views and beliefs |
